Chad Colton is a commercial litigator who represents businesses and individuals in complex business disputes. These include breach of contract, shareholder and partnership disputes, breach of fiduciary duty and other business cases. Chad also has experience in professional liability disputes involving corporate directors and officers, architects, engineers, accountants and attorneys.
In addition to his commercial litigation and professional liability practice, Chad advises clients on strategies for the resolution of e-commerce and internet disputes, including responses to online brand disparagement campaigns in light of free speech rights and Oregon’s anti-SLAPP statute. Over the past several years, he has served on the Executive Committee for the Oregon State Bar Computer and Internet Law Section.
Chad is passionate about trial advocacy and has tried nearly a dozen cases to verdict. He has tried cases involving claims for breach of fiduciary duty, elder financial abuse, and breach of contract. He also tried misdemeanor cases as a Certified Legal Student at the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office. During law school, Chad came in first place in the Lewis & Clark Law School Mock Trial Competition and later competed on the school’s regional mock trial team.
Since 2009, Oregon Super Lawyers has listed Chad as a “Rising Star.” This designation is given to only 2.5 percent of Oregon attorneys under the age of 40.
