Maya Fitas' eclectic background and innate curiosity give her a broad world view and dynamic presence. As a trial attorney, she regularly plays a significant role in complex cases. One of Maya’s many strengths is her ability to distill difficult issues into understandable concepts for judges, juries and a culturally diverse clientele.

Maya has taken part in some of the firm’s most complicated cases. She is considered a go-to team member for cases that include difficult fact patterns, multiple parties and intensive discovery. Maya is recognized for her skill in successfully resolving difficult disputes.

Maya was recognized by Oregon SuperLawyers magazine as a 2011 Rising Star and serves on the board of the nonprofit Oregon Lawyers Against Hunger.

Before bringing her business litigation practice to Markowitz, Herbold, Glade & Mehlhaf, Maya was an associate with the Detroit law firm of Bodman LLP, and a member of its litigation and environmental practice groups. While practicing in Michigan, Maya navigated large civil cases, acted as a municipal prosecutor and held leadership roles in the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association.

Maya received her law degree from Wayne State University, where she served as chancellor for the moot court program. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology with high distinction at the University of Michigan. As a child, Maya lived in North Africa and Europe, and she is conversationally fluent in Arabic and French.
