Biography
Maya Fitas' eclectic background and innate curiosity endow her with a broad world view and dynamic presence. Having played significant roles in complex environmental and international matters, Maya is at ease distilling difficult issues into understandable concepts for judges, juries, and a culturally diverse clientele.
Before bringing her business litigation practice to Markowitz, Herbold, Glade & Mehlhaf, Maya was an associate with the Detroit law firm of Bodman LLP, and a member of its litigation and environmental practice groups. While practicing in Michigan, Maya navigated large civil cases, acted as a municipal prosecutor and held leadership roles in the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association.
Maya received her law degree from Wayne State University, where she served as chancellor for the moot court program. She earned a bachelor of science degree in biology with high distinction at the University of Michigan. As a child, Maya lived in North Africa and Europe, and she is conversationally fluent in Arabic and French.
